The #DisruptPhilanthropyNOW! Campaign blog has its own site click above for more information. It is a partnership between Old Money New System (OMNS) Community of Practice and the Within Our Lifetime (WOL) Network to curate essays, op-eds, and testimonies to disrupt the ways philanthropy upholds white supremacy and oppression, demand accountability, and advocate for racially just grant-making.
The Old Money New System blog is a multimedia space to share thought-leadership on how to mobilize, pool, and exchange resources through the pathways of wealth redistribution, reparations, and re-investment to politically and economically marginalized communities. Our intention is to spread ideas and practice for a just transition in institutional philanthropy to decentralize governance of the surplus of resources from wealth accumulation in direct community control for an economic democracy in communities marginalized as a result of capitalism.
There are five tactics that serve as escalation steps towards a larger strategy in a framework of abolition. In this case we are explaining abolition with the institution of policing:
Defund the police
Divest from the police
Disband the police
Decentralize the police
Establish community control of public safety
These tactics work in order and together to bring us closer to our goal.
